First aid by Mary
Vorel! Puncture wounds in Uncle Al's arm suddenly appeared right after
we rounded the first windward mark of the race before lunch. I have no
recollection of anything happening. The infamous Awosting vampire?
Anyway, I spent the rest of the race dripping thinned blood all over
everything. Poor Meghan! Hope she doesn't mind the sight of blood.
Regardless, she continued doing stalwart crew work, just like she did
all week! Anyway, after the race, I was on my way to the beer tap when
Mary very kindly intercepted me and ...

... administered first aid.
The afternoon's racing seriously tested Mary's handiwork but it was up
to the strenuous task. Thanks a lot, Mary!! ........ |
Some kind soul got
this very nice shot of your Uncle Al. Thank you, whoever! ........ |
Judy Washburn (l)
and Pat Vorel, How can anyone look so fresh after this day of tough
racing??!! ........ |
The week's only protest:
Bob Zimmer demonstrates how John Washburn's boom gybed and pierced his
sail at mark #4. ........ |
The "parties"
to the protest, Bob Zimmer (white shirt) and John Washburn have their
backs to the camera. Shockingly, the Protest Committee - l to r: Dave
Sutter?, Lee Nowak, George Vurno, Uncle Al - had been and still were
drinking. But those beer cups came in handy as course marks as the
incident was laid out.

After due deliberation, a
decision was reached and explained. My congratulations to the parties who were models of good sportsmanship and honesty! Thanks, John and Bob. |
