CWA Chairman’s Message for the 2008 North American Wayfarer Yearbook

The 2008 season of Racing and Cruising events hosted by local and out-of-town Clubs has turned out to be most successful. Highlights of these events has been published by Al Schonborn on the CWA Website. To all the  Clubs and  Fleet Captains that arranged the hosting  of our annual events we extend our sincere thanks, and look  forward to enjoying their  facilities in 2009.

Our CWA Committee is still active and hoping that the new Hartley-designed Wayfarer can be put into production by a builder in Canada or USA in the near future. In the meantime, every effort is being made to promote  the sale of used Wayfarers.

Toronto Sailing & Canoe Club and Wayfarer Members were saddened at the untimely death Geoffrey Edwards, who passed away suddenly at the age of 70. Geoff had been a 30-year member at TS&CC and for 20 years, an active board member of the CWA. On behalf of TS&CC & CWA members, Al has published on both web sites, our Tribute covering Geoff's dedicated services to both the Club and our Association.

Al Schonborn will also be archiving North American 2008 Wayfarer activities on a Yearbook DVD to be distributed to all CWA and USWA members. The Racing and Cruising Calendar of events for 2009 is also being updated by Al on a day-to-day basis. Thanks to Al for his dedicated contribution to our Class Association operations.

A special wall Calendar was issued in 2008 to celebrate 50 years of the Wayfarer class which started in U.K  in  1957. Copies were sent to all Wayfarer Class Association members. The Canadian Association began  in Sept. 15, 1959 and will be celebrating  its 50th anniversary  in 2009.

After a successful  boat show presence in January 2008, the CWA will again be displaying a Mk III Wayfarer in the 2008 Toronto Boat Show to promote our Class and its activities. Our AGM will be held  Jan. 17, 2009 at TS&CC on last Saturday of the Toronto Boat Show.

Thanks to all our Committee members who have worked hard to complete the many tasks involved in running our many programs. Special thanks to those dedicated Wayfarers who attend most of our events and thus help maintain an active Class Association.

Best wishes and enjoyable sailing in the coming year.

Sincerely :

George T. Blanchard, CWA Chairman & Honorary Commodore.
