George Blanchard's Message for the 2009 North American Wayfarer Yearbook

Since I joined the Wayfarer Class in 1958 and the Association in 1959, I have finally had to cease participating in any further sailing events this year due to old age catching up to me, now 96. Anyway, I am still keeping busy organizing club and reciprocal regattas and projects, etc. Therefore I certainly appreciate the splendid service rendered by Al Schonborn, News Editor, in publishing highlights and results of our racing and cruising events both locally and out of town in the CWA Website. Al will also be publishing an archival summary the 2009 year's activities on a DVD Yearbook for release to all CWA members. Thanks to Al for his dedicated contribution to our Class Association’s operations.

Our CWA Committee is still active and hoping that the new Wayfarer designed by Hartley can be produced by a builder in Canada or USA in the near future. In the meantime, every effort is being made to promote the sale of used Wayfarers and possibly the importation of container-loads of the lovely Hartley Mark IV Wayfarers.

To all the Clubs and Fleet Captains who arranged the hosting of our annual events, our sincere thanks, and we look forward to enjoying their facilities in 2010. A North American Wayfarer Events Calendar with links to our Racing and Cruising events information is as always being kept admirably up-to-date. To further promote our Class Association activities, the CWA will again be displaying a Mk III Wayfarer in the 2010 Toronto Boat Show, after this again proved successful at the Show in January 2009.

After our CWA AGM got our 2009 Wayfarer year underway in fine if snowy style, our AGM will again be held at TS&CC on the last Saturday of the Toronto Boat Show. and we look forward to a good turnout.

Thanks to all our Committee members who have been involved in carrying out the many tasks involved in running our programs both locally and out of town, including those dedicated members who attend most of our events to help maintain an active Class Association.

Best wishes and enjoyable sailing in the coming year.

Sincerely, George T. Blanchard CWA Chairman & Honorary Commodore.
