The George Blanchard “See the Island Race” was renamed the “Remembrance” Race by George so we could remember all the past members of the club and Wayfarer association who had given so much, especially Geoff Edwards.
 
We got started a little late with George and Brian starting the keels going about 12:30 and the dinghies (Wayfarers and one Laser II) following 6 minutes later.
 
Hans Gottchling who had done a great job at registration did not attend the skippers meeting as he was counting the cash and reconciling it to the ticket sales.  This turned out to be a problem as Hans did not know that we were going to start at “A” (near the Argonaut Club) and sail to “5” before turning to Gibraltar Point and T1 and instead sailed directly to Gibraltar.
All of us felt bad that such a giving person would end up retiring after doing all the work of registration.
 
The wind was from the SSW so it was close reach to Gibraltar and a beam reach to T1 at the eastern gap. Some flew spinnakers to T1 while others did not. The only one whoseemed to make it pay was John Cawthorne as he put a large lead on the fleet. We had a very close reach back to Gibralter and a nice spinnaker reach from there to the club. Complete dinghy results below.

A wonderful meal of burgers, dogs, corn on the cob and three salads was served by Derek and his helpers.
 
We missed both of the recent North American co-winners as Al was in Michigan sailing a Rebel at the Clark Lake regatta and Tom Wharton sailed with Anna and son, Tommy, in their J24 for this race.
