Fine Worlds Warm-up as
Simon Strauss edges Marc Bennett in Bayview One-Design!!

The above shot says it all as guest Wayfarers,  Simon Strauss of New York and long-time English Wayfarer lineage (above right) and Mr. Clean of Sailing Anarchy
(see June 5th: Sideways and more?) teamed
up to edge out the East Lansing, MI husband/wife team of Marc Bennett and Julie Seraphinoff (2nd from right above) in the Bayview YC's 2nd annual One- Design Regatta June 1-2. Breezy conditions predominated and other boats expected to be challengers on the Wayfarer Worlds the first week of August at the Mississauga SC spent too much time swimming to be serious series competitors this time around.

From a North American Wayfarer point of view, the news was good: Capsizes aside, our regular sailors gave our very able guests an impressive run for their money in all aspects of racing throughout this extremely well run event.

You were missed Al! Be sure to be a good rehab patient, so we can be out racing with you again soon!

It was great practice and very good workout at the BOD. Good to see the gang again and to be taken care of so well by Nick and Mary.

We did 8 quick races Saturday in about 4 hours and did get any rain or thunder while on the water. 3 more Sunday to top it off.

We decided to try the spinnaker in a good wind (18 knots?) with gusts. Best time to practice is with crash boats handy. We were second to the windward mark with Marc & Julie hot on our tail and got the spinnaker up. I let get to windward and we rolled, when we rolled back Sue thinks the tiller got pulled out of her hand when the rudder "beaver-tailed". If we had finished that race, even in last place, we would've had 3rd place with our old sails. Didn't want to flog our new Mike Mac sails. It was a great confidence booster to hold our own in that wind!

Talk soon

Steph
