'99 Clark Lake action as captured by Tim Dowling
.....

Joe DeBrincat (W1115) cruises around as the RC (on the pontoon boat)
prepares to get Sunday morning's race 4 underway
.....

Peter Every and Bob Frick in W3975

John & Joan (W1320) check for shifts
.....

George Blanchard and Dennis Platt

Darlene and Mike Codd
.....

Darlene and Mike once more

Marc Bennett & Al ready to Rebel
.....

Race 4 start: Armand Niccolai (3487) will have a tough time laying the mark
from where he is here. A bad start for the two red boats
- but with the shifts, it may not matter!!!
.....

Not a good spot for Tony to be backing his jib in 3487!
Ken and Joe (1115) get underway at last.
.....

You want short beats? Only 6-7 minutes into the race, the closely bunched Interlake fleet is already halway down the run with lots of colourful spinnakers. John (6090) and Roger (7700) have tacked to the lifted port tack but will be going through a lot more weeds where they're headed! Also, they'll hit the blanketing effect of the south shore sooner!
.....

Armand and Tony in 3487 are chomping along nicley here - note the angle of considerably less than 90 degrees between port and starboard boats!!
.....

Looks like Mike and Darlene went up the middle and rounded first!
.....

Bob and Peter round second while Joe and Ken (red bow at left) have recovered nicely
from their belated start. The other boats show why many people don't like buoys to starboard...
.....

the domino effect????
.....

after all that mess, Ken and Joe round 3rd - and how did George get in front of the Goldis
and the deBoers?!   Bob & Tom (2389) may well be next around after George!
.....

Mike Codd, Bob Frick (blue/yellow/pink spi), Joe DeBrincat (1115) and Bob Emans lead the way while Roger and Joanne will be pressed to round 8th (unless the Goldis in 1320 have dematerialized) But guess who won the race - Roger and Joanne! That's Clark Lake for you!
You're never out of contention!
.....

Hubert Dauch and Jerry Brauer have moved into contention just past the gybe mark off Eagle Point - everybody looking good!
.....

At the leeward mark at the far west end of Clark Lake:
Mike holds the narrowest of leads over Bob and Joe
.....

and the rest are bringing up a big puff: left to right: Roger, John deBoer (green/blue/yellow spi), Armand Niccolai and Tony Krauss showing excellent form with their orange, white and gray chute, and the Goldis with their distress flag? And after all this, in the half mile or so to the finish, Roger managed to grab first and the deBoers 3rd while Mike fell to 7th!!
.....

Tim Dowling captured the race 5 start beautifully as Joe (1115), Roger (7700), John (6090) and Joh  Goldi (1320) look particularly good off the start.
.....

Mike Codd (421) will be in a great position to tack should the wind back!
.....

I haven't been able to figure this out: this pic and the next were supposedly taken before the previous two - was there a general recall for this start? Anyway, Bob Emans and Tom Reed (2389) look super but they should hike to power up the boat!
.....

seconds after the last pic - I think starboard tack has been greatly lifted
and poor Bob Emans is getting buried!
.....

Meanwhile, in the Rebel fleet, Uncle Al and Marc Bennett grab a leeward end start in Some Assembly Required (4187) - will they get their wind taken by 1176?
.....

Nope! Phew! They're safe - for the moment!
.....

the battle of the green boats continues - the wind has backed
- Al wants to tack soon
.....

Uncle Al pinches 4187 around the windward mark while
Mary Vorel and her grandmother, an excellent tactician, close in with 4161
.....

leaders ready to start the (spinnakerless, on Rebels!) run across the lake to #5
.....

Series winner, Mark Quiniff with his wife and young son aboard 4179 are in fine position to pounce - and they did eventually, winning both Sunday races!
.....

Uncle Al and Marc wave their thanks to the RC after race 4
.....

Here we see Uncle Al and Marc executing a nicely synchronized movement
... of some kind!
