For race 2, Neil gave us 4-3-5-4-5-4: the Clark Lake version of an Olympic triangle (triangle-sausage-windward).
...
As the Interlakes get set to start after a quick RC pee break, the winds have lost some zip and some rain looks possible.
...

Team 4180 have again decided on an RC boat end start at all costs, but eek, Weakley has snuck in to windward of them and, as things stand now, John is blocking Al from tacking! But the real story of this start was Jeff and Bittany Hoover's bold and successful port tack start in 416! A few seconds later ...
...

... all we can see is their wake as all these Rebels now have a starboard knock. Note the difference in leech shape between Al on the far left who has been footing a bit for speed and John who is oversheeting just to windward and astern. Here Al is torn between a desire to tack to the somewhat favoured port tack in order to chase Jeff before he's completely gone, and sound, conservative strategy which says "stay with the favourites", Dave Nickels (4th from left) and Jim (3rd from left).
...

The top three Interlakes have rounded onto ...
...

... the reach towards #3.
...

Spinnakers up! Note that race 1 winner, Jamie Jones (1267) is having a much tougher time in this one!
...

As Brian Main (4160) aims for the recommended port layline approach to the treacherous #4, Mike Sharkey and friends meet "The Spinnaker"!!! Looks like a puzzled Mike is ready to harpoon the Clark Lake whale???
...

Poor Mike! No sooner is the spinny up and flying at last than they have to gybe to keep clear of Dave (green insignia) and John Hudak beside Dave who had right of way as leeward boats before the 1236 gybe. On the far right, savvy Clark Lake veteran, Larry Schmida comes rolling in on the port layline.
...

Meanwhile, Al and Marc (4180) have begun their first reach. With no spinnaker to keep him occupied, Marc has nothing better to do than to warn Al about the converging Woody who will be leeward boat. Which is why Uncle Al has just started to bear away here.
...

Jim and Theresa round in 2nd place, while ...
...

... Larry and Patti (4191) roll in on the port layline to round 3rd. Dave Nickels (4176) will follow in 4th.
...

Rebels near #4: (l to r) Jeff, Brian, Woody, John Hudak, John Weakley and Larry???
...

Al is pretty much alone as he and Marc near the end of the second beat, with only Larry and Patti within 300 yards. Larry and Al were evidently the only ones in the Rebel fleet not to hit a big dead spot on the second reach that left the rest of the fleet over half a leg behind!
...

Note Al's wake which shows he approached #4 from offshore (on port tack) giving the #4 trees the respect they deserve!
...

What with their big lead, this is a run on which Marc and Al can go where they like: up in the lulls, down with puffs - all the while avoiding shores since the wind is still angling off the south shore at 20 to 30° most of the time, which makes being too close to shore an unacceptable risk for a first-place boat.
...

Quick! Does Mike Sharkey (1236) have to give room to Larry (4191) at a windward mark? Yes, if the overlap was established outside the two-length zone! It's only when the boats approach a windward mark on opposite tacks that rule 18 does not apply!
...

A crowded moment at the finish line as a Sunfish and two Interlakes cross at almost the same time.
...

Note mark 3 in the background as Al and Marc (sleeping) roll into #4 on the port layline yet again to ...
...

... win race 2. Donald Fritz has just finished a shorter course in his Sunfish.
...

Time for a beer break - well earned - before we see if there will be enough life left in our wind to sail race 3.
...

Larry and Patti Schmida complete a very well sailed race in second place! Dave Nickels and Jim Quiniff
will place 3-4 while Woody Woodruff and Dorothy Rose will complete the top five.
