Clark Lake Fall Regatta Clark Lake YC * Sept. 24-25, 2005 Race 4 pics - part 2 by Dan Hockenberry |
Ron Gall (l) seems
to
have a lift but less wind, while Bob
Sagan (628) gurgles nicely towards ... ... |
... a first-place finish. ... |
Jamie Jones takes
Interlake
2nd and moves into series 2nd, one point behind Tom
Marriott who will
place 4th in this race. ... |
Brook Smith just nips
Tom
Ehman for Interlake 5th. ... |
Don Wilson
(1374) gets
the
beep just ahead of Tim Marriott. (At this point, Marc
and I were very
close to the finish - 30 yards? - and coming in on
port behind Don. Tim
was certainly kinder than I would ever be here: he
could/should - as
near as we could tell - have starboarded Don before
that latter could
clear the finish line, made him do a 720 and
re-finish. Instead, Tim
luffed up and tacked right around the mark, donating a
point that ended
up leaving him behind Don in the series.

A minute or two
earlier:
Although Jeff Hoover (416) is clearly the second-place
boat, Al is in
no hurry to tack towards the wind shadow nearer the
shore to cover. ... |
Instead, he and Marc (r)
sailed a nice little puff close to the starboard
layline,
tacked 100 yards from the line, tacked again about 30
yards from the
line, and finally tacked to ... ... |
... cross the line and
virtually clinch the series, i.e. to fall to series 2nd,
Al would have
to place 9th or worse while Dave Nickels won the finale. ... |
A loud cheer from one
and
all - especially from Jeff and Brittany Hoover in Warp
Drive
(416) - as they nailed an excellent 2nd. ... |
John Hudak and Larry
Christiansen (4194) had a race to remember as they edged
out the
National champ, Dave Nickels to take 3rd place. ... |
The crew of Interlake
1236
celebrates a race in which nothing went seriously wrong,
as they three
solo helms from Clark Lake began to get their teamwork
together. ... |
Jim Quiniff and
Theresa
Stoodley made a nice come-back to grab Rebel 5th and
remain in the hunt
for series 2nd, just two points behind Dave. ... |
After John Weakley (not
seen
above) crossed 6th, Woody and Dorothy (4077) just
edged out
Larry and Patti for 7th. ... |
Brian Main's smile for
Dan
and the camera looks a bit forced as he and Mike Wolf
have fallen to a
10th-place finish after sailing so well early in the
race. ... |
Derrick Fries is about
to
cross with a Sunfish 1st and move into a series tie at
1-1-2-2 with ... ... |
... Dan Norton who has
just
edged out Donald Jones for 2nd place. This sets up a
great battle for
series first in the upcoming 5th and final race. ... |
Chuck crosses the
finish
line at the favoured end. |
