Regatta Clark Lake YC * Sept. 23-24, 2006 Saturday racing pics - 2 by Peggy Quiniff and Neil Robb |
Hoping for a good
start in race 2, Dan and Al (4180) check out the line
during the Rebel 5-minute countdown, but ... ... |
... above all, they
will stay right near the line to avoid getting caught
out if the wind should die. ... |
Jim Quiniff comes in
on port and will tack under Bruce Nowak (4187) as the
final few seconds tick away. Dan (4180) has his main in too tight for these light winds and is about to ... ... |
... get buried by Dave
Nickels (4176). A lovely boat-end start for Scott
Dowling (4069) who ... ... |
... not only has
good speed and clear air but will also have the
freedom to tack in case of a starboard-tack knock. Jim
Quiniff appears to have acquired a nice safe-leeward
position on Bruce (4187) but may be pinned onto
starboard tack even if the wind backs. Dan
(4180) will need to tack to clear his air, a move that
will fit nicely with his race strategy of staying away
from the windward shore.

Larry Schmida visits
the RC boat during the Buccaneer/Wayfarer start
sequence. ... |
Jim (4162) continues
in towards shore while John Hudak (4194) comes across on
port. ... |
Joe DeBrincat prepares
for his solo endeavour in W1115, The Maltese Falcon. ... |
Bob Frick and Peter
Every (3975) check out the line one more time. ... |
One more run towards
the boat end for ... ... |
... Todd and Larry
Schmida. ... |
Mike and David Smith
check the line. ... |
The final seconds of
the countdown ... ... |
... tick away, and
finally ... ... |
... they're off! A
great port tack start for Bob (3975) and it looks like
Joe will be able to follow suit just behind him. ... |
The present wind
direction will allow boats to sail almost straight west
down the lake towards the first turn at #6, but most of the Sunfish wisely hold starboard and then ... ... |
... tack to port as
the gun goes. ... |
Dan Norton (78829) and
Tom Katterheinrich (75417) come out of their tacks with
nice speed and will be in fine shape for the early going. |
