Just before 1000 hrs, the fleet gathers for the final two races in a wind that is slowly gaining strength.

- for full-size pic, click here  With two races left and no drops, pretty much anything can still happen, but in Interlakes and Wayfarers, we have leaders with seemingly safe leads after scoring a perfect three wins in three Saturday races. In the tiny 3-boat Wayfarer fleet, Joe DeBrincat (1-1-1) is well in control with a 3-point edge over Bob Frick (2-2-2). Meanwhile the very impressive 1-1-1 scored by Steve Savage and Jamie Jones in the 13-boat Interlake fleet has them well up on 2nd-place Brooke Smith with Colleen Hughes (2-5-2: 9 pts.) and 3rd-place Andy Nixon with Kristen Petro (5-3-3: 11 pts.).
In the other two fleets, the title is still pretty much up for grabs, Among the 8 Sunfish, Tom Katterheinrich (3-1-1) leads R... Stephenson (1-2-4) by a couple of points while at 4-4-3, Matt Heywood lies a distant 3rd, 6 points out of first. Things are closest in the 18-boat Rebel fleet where the three leaders are virtually tied: Al Schonborn (3-1-1) is a point up on Mary Vorel (1-3-2) while National champ, Dave Nickels (2-2-3) lurks just one more point back, in 3rd. Lying a distant 4th with only the faintest of hopes of cracking the top three, is Steve Cummings who already has 14 points from 4-5-5 finishes.

All set to go are Julie and Dave.

Dave stands in the boat and looks upwind to see what the water can tell him about where the best winds will be.

Team Kermit duly ...
...

... checks in.
...

As do Fritz and Bill.
...

Check-in for Rebel leaders, Al and Marc. When he's not hung over, Uncle Al looks a lot ...
...

... less cheerful. Marc (r) seems to have had a fine night, too! Note Uncle Al in his understated Sunday best, including the nearest he could get to imitating Ron Reading's flashy shorts at a Wal-Mart in Parry Sound, ON!!
...

Brooke and Colleen - bright-eyed and ...
...

... bushy-tailed, as they used to say.

Woody Woodruff and the ineffable Bill Locke greet Sunday morning. (I have no idea what ineffable actually means but it sounds so right, doesn't it??) (note: I think the word I wanted was incomparable. I googled ineffable and discovered the following from answers.com:

in·ef·fa·ble (ĭn-ĕf'ə-bəl) pronunciation
adj.
  1. Incapable of being expressed; indescribable or unutterable.
  2. Not to be uttered; taboo: the ineffable name of God.
ineffability in·ef'fa·bil'i·ty or in·ef'fa·ble·ness n.
ineffably in·ef'fa·bly adv.
...

Perhaps Woody is feeling an ineffable sense of doom here?

The Interlake classic is checked in by ...
...

... Craig Spear and Joe Schardt.
...

NRCA Commodore, Al Vorel, and his wife, Karel, in their Rebel oldie but goodie.
...

Bruce and Mark (foreground) check in. Following them are ...
...

... Mike Judd at the helm of Interlake 909 and Tom Marriott (the not-so-evil twin?) ...
...

... having a little pre-race rest.
...
The ladies look very chipper this morning!
...

Phil Faulkner gives a turn at the helm to John Washburn who has a Rebel of his own back in Chicago.
...

Kevin and CeCe have it all under control.
