The sailors begin to gather on a splendid fall morning at ...
...

... the ...
...

... Clark Lake Yacht Club.
...

One of the Interlakes has arrived in style - with a bottom cover!
...

Also going in style will be Uncle Al who will be sailing Dan Hockenberry's flawlessly maintained white Rebel 4180 Impact,
that you can see above on the dry mooring next to the Sunfish.
...
And Al has further lucked in by getting local Buccaneer ace, Larry Schmida, as crew.
...

A few ripples have begun to show on the water
- a harbinger, we hope, of the 5 to 10 knots of W breeze mentioned in the day's forecast.

New Wayfarer: Solje (W1321) beautifully restored by Gary Hirsch and last seen by us in Maine at our Aug. 2008
International Rally at Casco Bay's Hermit Island. (l to r) Mike Smith, Uncle Al, Gary and Stephanie Hirsch
...
Gary prepares the wooden mast while Uncle Al has used W1321's deck for his ubiquitous camera bag and Starbucks "mug".
...
The trailer came with oversized wheels that are great on the road but require a small step ladder
to let Gary comfortably climb into the boat. And you gotta love ...
...
... Gary's removable mast support complete with gudgeon and pintle,
an item that Gary found in a local shop that sells nautical odds and ends.
...

Uncle Al (l)  and Gary Hirsch welcome another new Wayfarer, Mike Austerberry, who has arrived with his ...
...

... blue beauty Quiz which he has parked beside ...
...

... Joe DeBrincat's Maltese Falcon.
...

Mike unpacks under the careful scrutiny of his son, Robin (4), and yet another new W, John Hopson, whose mast still needs a gooseneck, but who has decided to come in from Muskegon, and have a look at some other Wayfarers. John was only able to stay for about half a day this time but did send us a dozen or so pictures that have been gratefully incorporated into this report. This picture, alas, does not do justice to John's amazingly crafted beard that I never did get my intended close-up of. You can see the beard better at John's web site which shows an amazing collection items (largely for the home) that John makes for people. I love his slogan: If You Can Dream It, I Can Make It!
...

Still another new Wayfarer, Robert Mosher of East Lansing, MI, will be crewing for John Kolstoe in this CL16.

The first all-glass Interlake to be built (#161) still sails with a wooden mast.
...

The lovely Clark Lake YC launch area: a very gently sloping sandy bottom complete with ...
...

... a very nice ...
...

... hoist hoist and a ...
...

... ramp with a no-skid rubber mat
...

still not much sign of our promised breeze!
...

John helps Tim Marriott (the evil Interlake twin?!) with his main.

National Rebel champ, Dave Nickels, has arrived, His pick-up crew, Shannon Shank, checks out the systems before ...
...

... hiding from Uncle Al's camera. Is Mike Smith holding Dave's mast in hopes that some speed will rub off?!
