Race 1.04

...

Gary and Stephanie Hirsch are off to a splendid start in their first Wayfarer race, while three Rebels are still struggling to get underway. Moral: The lighter/flukier the wind is, the less you want to get away from the start line.
...

Mike Anspach (r) and Mark Murton are underway in their W, followed by ...
...

... John Kolstoe with Robert Mosher in the CL.
...

Mike Smith eagerly awaits the advancing new breeze while Ryan is otherwise occupied.
...

(l to r) Jay Topping (3994), John in the CL, and Gail who has just started in her Sunfish.
...

Eek! Poor Tom Katterheinrich (75417) is about to get "buried" by two boats who by all rights should be long gone!
...

Sabotage has tacked to starboard but will be cleared by Gail (24186) and Dan Norton (78829).
...

That can't be very comfortable, Tom! Looking at the angle Tom is making to the north shore, one would say that Tom has been seriously headed. Then again,  if Tom is going to switch sides, the tack may not be worth the hassle!
...

John and Robert are being passed by ...
...

... Rob Stephenson who is tacking now after being headed.
...

Ditto for Tom (75417) and John
...

Matt Heywood has tacked on the knock and is now footing to get/keep his speed up.
...

A look towards the windward mark from near the start area, as the leading boats approach the end of the first beat.

Scott and Lynn gybe to dig back in towards the rhumbline. Off their bow, we can see Uncle Al and Larry (R4180)
who have come back from their start line debacle to challenge for the Rebel lead.

All three leaders have now gybed to starboard. This angle shows the relative positions more realistically - with Andy and Kirsten holding a healthy lead over Scott and Lynn, who in turn are well in front of Bob and Betsy.    - click here for full-size image

Now nearing the windward mark is another gaggle of Interlakes with ...

... Ron Gall about to round just ahead of ...
...
... Brook Smith.
...
Ron (1325) and Brook (1380) bring a nice little breeze which Bob (red & white spi) is still waiting for.
Scott (2nd from right) also has the puff and is making inroads on Andy (r).

Five Interlakes and a Wayfarer (sounds like a movie title, doesn't it?)
