Sunday race pics - 1
by Marc Bennett and Uncle Al

Complete with "new" jib and smaller waves, Stefan and Tom are all set to have a more successful day.
...
Ready to rescue: Rob Wierdsma (l) and his son, Ben
...

Geoff Edwards and Dave Codd check out the line and their upwind trim.
...

With Fred away today, Michael will helm Rusty Scuppers. Here, he and Kate Linkova get in a bit of spinnaker practice.
...

Sunday's first race (race 5), first run: Mike Codd and Jane (who could sit on the deck to balance the boat better)
...

Bob (r) and Scott Kennedy are doing better today, now that they have a complete centreboard.
...

Looks like Hans and John (orange hull) should have the inside track for room at the leeward mark coming up.
...

It's a close race among Reg Bunt (7227), Geoff Edwards (9483), Ted Lacelle and ...
...

... Dave Platt (red spi).
...

Could be some good action coming up at the leeward mark.
...

Race 5, nearing the downwind finish: Stefan Larson (600) is trying to hold onto his narrow 2nd-place edge over ...
...

... Mark Taylor (7673) . If they continue to converge, Stefan will have to keep clear since Mark is on starboard!
...

A bit further back, a close four-way battle is shaping up among
(l to r) John de Boer, Kit Wallace, Ivan Pedersen and Hans Gottschling.
...

The second-place battle continues between Stefan (600) and Mark (7673) while (l to r) Michael Kachkovsky, Peter Kozak with Linda, Doug Netherton, Alastair Ryder-Turner and Geoff Edwards are ready to pounce on the slightest mistake. Will W600 crew, Tom Wharton refill that spinnaker in time to prevent disaster???
...

It appears so. Mark and Paul have decided to gybe, which cost them just enough speed to leave Stefan with his ...
...

... second place by a small margin. In Mark's shoes, a nastier sailor - such as myself - might have been tempted to force the confrontation with W600 by holding starboard and luffing up to either force Stefan to gybe away (at which point I might have gybed to port to maintain clear air, or to take Stefan's wind and then let the chips fall where they may. A Mark Taylor gybe where it was actually made, probably made Stefan smile a huge smile of relief???
...

A well sailed and exciting race for both Stefan and Mark!
...

Alastair and David are on their way to a ...
...

... fine 4th.
...

Peter and Linda crossed 5th but subsequently lost a protest which moved ...
...

... Doug Netherton up to 5th.
...

A solid sixth for Mike and Jane while ...
...

... Michael and Kate will take 7th ahead of Bob and Scott.
