An interesting morning view to the east from near Anne's Cafe ...
...

... in Richards Landing.
...

Soon after breakfast, the day brightened right up and we got to work. Before we launched the boat for good, we wanted to try out our sails to make sure everything would fit - no surprises wanted on Saturday morning. Plus we wanted to add a refinement or two: our own magic box which was identical to the Harken 116 hulk that had been stripped of its innards by parties unknown over the winter (moose, perhaps?), much thinner main and jib sheets, a bridle and a masthead fly.
Somewhere during the day, Marc discovered to his horror that our mast was visibly bent at deck level (marginally visible in the pic below). Despite my assurances that, with the rest of the mast being straight and with the effects of rig tension, we should be fine, Marc remained worried until the racing began. After that, I never heard another word about it, oddly enough.
...

Marc installs a shackle at the tack of the mainsail to keep the tack at a height that won't distort sail shape. Note that our jib halyard was too short for our jib, so that we added a bit of Spectra rope from our supplies rather than drilling two more rivet holes into Mason's mast. We then removed the halyard tail since the jib would not be coming down until Sunday night. We would again roll it around our forestay each day after we came in.

Colin meanwhile was about to ...
...

... spiff up CL929 with a jazzy new racing stripe. No drips anywhere!! I'm green with envy!
...

Note the stripe begins a bit aft of the bow so that 929 will not be too easy to ID if he's a bit early at the start!
...

Colin and Heather have volunteered to drive us to the dinner at Mason's "camp" tonight. At the campground, they got grass on which to pitch their tent - a lovely set-up with many of the comforts of home! Lucky them!
...

Heather is all nicely dressed for ...
...

... the dinner party!
...

We parked outside the camp's modest little 5-car garage and ...
...

... walked from there.
...

Colin gets set to explore the walkway down to the docks. Al will stay up here to help Mason open the beer.
