And chivalry is definitely not dead as Poul Ammentorp keeps Irene happy and dry ... |

It was shortly after this that Jesper's wife, Aida, left to cycle the 10 minutes back home. No sooner had Aida left, than the Coach came in and said: "I think it's going to rain." "Hell," replied Uncle Al, "it's been raining all night, Coach!" "No, Uncle Al, I mean it's really going to rain!!" At which time, the skies truly opened up with a downpour of Biblical proportions complete with thunder and lightning. When we got back to Jesper's a while later, there were some very wet Aida-type clothes in the drying room. But we had no time to waste on small stuff - Jesper, Aida, the Coach, Christian and I had to drink some Famous Grouse to toast other Canadian Wayfarers who would have loved to re-visit Denmark but couldn't make it this time: Tom Wharton, Frank Goulay and Marc Bennett. Unfortunately, Aida was still tired from Greenland and Christian from his Race Committee work, so that the Coach and Jesper and I had to do most of the work ourselves and it wasn't until after 3 a.m. that we finally laid the bottle to rest. And in that time, the Coach and I got some very illuminating insights into Jesper's misspent youth - many of these stories centering around life in a "Deux Chevaux" that was missing its body but was still a "babe magnet" as they sometimes say over here.. Aaaah, it was a fine night - much better than the morning after! |
