The 2020 George Washington's Birthday Regatta From: James Heffernan [mailto:jheffernan@nc.rr.com] Sent: Thursday, February 27, 2020 10:47 AM Subject: GWB results & report   On Saturday the winds were 18 steady gusting to 22.  Except for Jim and Linda everyone turned back before first start.  Even a Flying Scot capsized before the start but continued to do the races. W1066 had a single reef in and then we reefed the jib while raising board part way to stay upright.  Chicken gybes kept us out of trouble downwind. On Sunday with 12 -16 mph winds we had enjoyable racing.  Burns/Tighe traded tacks with the Heffernans for the whole race with only a few seconds difference at the finish line as the Heffernans tacked on the lee bow of 10963 to cross the line first. Last race went to the Heffernans as they watched the Flying Scots catch a big wind shift and so they tacked over to it quickly to get a solid lead.
