The races yesterday were very nice, laid-back in fact. 8 boats (incl. 1 CL-16). Steak, dinosaur, stuffed baked potato, local beer. All was good. Marc & Julie took honors, but Joe gave them a run for it (with Noelle as crew). Mary and I showed no imagination whatsoever with a string of 3s until a final 2 (I think Noelle must have been losing interest by that time). Typical small lake: shifty, but we kept moving. Nick Seraphinoff drove all the way down from Traverse and had Julie's son Spenser as crew: Nick needed 20 knots: Spenser's a big boy. Richard II made it in from Harrisburg, PA and had a friend of his - Frank - come from Indiana as crew. Jim Fletcher is quite keen and was seeking input. There are several Jazz and Blues festivals in Lansing over the summer and there are thoughts of having this (or, with luck, additional) regattas in conjunction. They have quite a fleet of Lightnings but apparently the real drivers have gone over to Melges 17s and now both fleets are somewhat diluted. Jim, I think, is using the W as "the one true path". Up rational sailing! Nice club, nice folks. |
