The Mississauga SC Wayfarer/CL Regatta Race 2.4 by Gord Leachman & Alan Hallwood |
As Mark and Paul (7673) set
a classic example of great light-air trim, Al and Colin (3854) will do
their nice, slow, wide and ... ... |
... close
rounding. Marc would, at this time, reach in and crank the mainsheet in
for me as quickly or as slowly as it needed doing. But I figured Colin
had enough on his plate already, and didn't want to overload the lad.
Team Taylor, too, is nicely lined up for a wide and ...
.. |
... close rounding. .. |
Geoff and George continue
to hold 3rd over Kit and David. .. |
The close CL battle rages
on as Gary (2679) defends against ... .. |
... Colin (929) and Rob (1050). .. |
An
unnecessarily late and thus risky douse for Gary and John: By dousing
half a minute earlier, they might have lost up to 5 feet of distance.
They'll lose at least that much with the rushed douse and rounding
here, and of course, a ton more, should they hit an unexpected snag in
the procedure!
.. |
As Colin and Al near the
finish, the winds are ... .. |
... most definitely ... .. |
... dying! Here Al luffs up
(tacks, actually, in this case) to get across the line just those
couple of inches sooner. .. |
Having finished (first), Al
... .. |
... thanks the RC while
Colin gets set to tuck into the vegan lunch that the MSC volunteers
kindly delivered on the water. .. |
Al tests to see if SHADES will remain hove to in these
ever lighter airs. .. |
Commodore, Mark Taylor,
ghosts across in 2nd place. .. |
Geoff and George ghost
across 3rd as the wind has virtually died. No thanks to the oblivious
motor boaters! .. |
Kit will drift across in
4th place but for others, the time limit rule that specified a DNF for
those not finishing within 30 minutes of the first-place boat, is
becoming a real concern. In the event, Gary (2679) made it in time to
take 5th, while ... .. |
... Colin (929) will just
barely squeeze into 6th before the time limit expires. Note John
Hemingway keeping a close watch on the time aboard the RC boat. |
