The Mississauga SC Wayfarer/CL Regatta
Race 6.3
by Gord Leachman & Alan Hallwood

Looking for something to do, Gary??? You can keep the chute flying while John stows the pole, sort of ...
...

... like the Rods are doing very nicely here.
...

Stuart moves to take away the whisker pole.
...

Uh, lads. Haven't we forgotten something(s)????
...

Colin and Heather get set for a last-second douse and ...
...

... gybe manoeuvre, which really wasn't necessary here with no boats close astern, and which rarely leads to a good rounding.
...

I rest my case!! (and I didn't look at this picture first, either!) Stuart (7660) at least has the excuse that he's sailing solo, for his less-than-efficient rounding. Rod (l) still has that painfully overtightened, straight leech on his main which must be due to excess vang! (In these winds, any vang tension is excess!!!!!)
...

Rob ends this comedy of errors with a nice, efficient rounding.
...

Stuart looks good going up the second of three beats.
...

As do Rob and Sam.
...

Stuart nips past the starboard Gary.
...

After extending his lead over Al who did pass Kit on the long second beat,
Mark (l) now faces the challenge of holding on against Al (3854) and his ultra-light crew on this long run.
...

Fine form for the Brothers Taylor who will finish first by holding off ...
...

... Uncle Al down the run and up the final short beat.
...

Kit holds 3rd over Geoff as the run gets underway.
...

Rod has rounded just ahead of ...
...

... the lonely Stuart.
...

How does he do it? Every time I see a picture of Colin, he seems to have lots of wind!!
...

John takes "keep the spinnaker on the edge of a luff" to new heights, but ...
...

... tweaks the sheet ...
...

... nicely and just in time. Might as well use the furling gear and get the jib out of the way.
This works in really light airs, and is definitely worth a try here!
...
An impressive comeback for Geoff and Lou who will place 3rd behind Mark and Al, and who have passed ...
...
... Kit and David.
...

Another well-sailed 6th for Stuart.
...

A 7th for Gary which starts to look OK since he beat the other two CL's.
