Geoff Edwards has teamed up with MSC's Ron Dival for the day.
...

The countdown to race 1 is well underway, well into the final minute, in fact.
...

Suspecting that it will pay to hold starboard tack off the start and to go out into the lake, the three top-seeded boats are in the process of fighting over the pin end. As long as Al (600) can stay to leeward of and unblanketed by Mark (7673) and Marc (3854) he will be in control for a safe leeward start.
...

When Mark bears away, Al follows suit, but of course, the trick is not to get too far down the line too soon and end up being early for the gun with no place to go - or worse, reach a point where you can no longer lay the pin!!
...

One or two seconds to go to the gun.

A few seconds before the start: Al (600) has the pin end over Mark (7673) and Marc (3854),
provided he has matched time to distance perfectly.   - for full-size pic, click here

They're off! (visible from l to r) Colin, Marc, Mark, Al
Assuming this shot was taken from the RC boat, the line looks pretty square to the wind.

A couple of seconds later: From this angle, the pin end looks to be ...
...

... slightly favoured.
...

Al (600) has clear air but, as would be his problem all day, he has been unable to match Mark (7673) for pointing - apparent mast height shows that Mark is some distance to windward of Al. Others from left to right: Marc, Colin, Alan, Rodrick, Gary
