While Marc (3854) keeps sailing
"his own race", Al is ... ... |
... trying to ... ... |
... take ... ... |
... Mark's wind. ... |
Mark (7673) wisely ... ... |
... reacts by luffing up a bit
to clear his air. ... |
And Al, who has now dropped to
3rd will need to ... ... |
... gybe to stay after Mark's
wind, and also to go for the leeward mark which is coming up fast. ... |
Marc has made inroads on the
run, but is again on the outside. ... |
With a crew he's not used to,
Marc (3854) opts for the safety cushion of an early douse, and here ...

... the recommended windward
douse is being executed to perfection. To forestall halyard tangles,
Marc
continues to hold the halyard up after uncleating it. And now Julie
will pull the spinnaker down, dragging the halyard through Marc's light
grip. Actually, when I do this halyard holding, I hold my arm straight
up over my head, which works a treat.

As Julie finishes her cautious
douse, Paul, a more experienced crew who still had the chute flying in the last picture, has already caught up. ... |
Another windward douse, this one
by Tom, with Al just ... ... |
... about to hold his arm way up
to try to avoid halyard tangles. ... |
Meanwhile, the lads are ... ... |
... off up the second beat in ... ... |
... excellent form. ... |
Al rounds a close 3rd behind
Mark and Marc. ... |
No mistakes for the Taylors this time! As Colin and Heather
approach their rounding, Mark holds port and will ... ... |
... make Al tack first, which he
has done. Mark then followed suit and with just that little but
consistent upwind edge, and then proceeded to add to his lead no matter what Al and Tom tried during this upwind speed test. ... |
Colin gets some ... ... |
... exciting wave action. |
