the leeward mark, the finish, etc.
at the leeward mark
Race 6, Sunday: an interesting rounding of the final leeward mark in the making Gale Shoemaker (93) and Joe DeBrincat (1115)
seem to have the inside track but what about Bill Fyfe (yellow spi) who will get better apparent wind by pointing higher...

aha! it was Bill Fyfe around first, then Gale and then Bob Brown (1385) who must have been off to leeward with Bill. Entitled to buoy room is Joe DeBrincat. And right behind him are Erik and Vicky sitting nicely forward in W1378 to keep the stern from dragging as are Geoff Edwards and George Waller in 9483.   - larger image

a couple of seconds later: note how Bill and Frank (937) have their sails drawing and are moving out while Gale (93) has stopped with no wind in his main. This means both Joe and Bob should keep their speed up and go around Gale to leeward - as should Erik and Geoff!  - larger image

a brief Saturday afternoon breeze brought a major veer that has turned this run into a reach   - larger image

and now it's around the leeward mark and on to the finish at a mark moved to give us a beat.   - larger image

SHADES begins a final beat with sails set just right for such light airs  - larger image
