The

When we arrived back at
the Lake Eustis SC early Thursday afternoon, several
W's were already
|
|
Geoff
Edwards (l)
and Pat Reardon were preparing Jansubar. |
|
Not surprisingly, Marc (l)
found our host, Mike Murto, near the draft beer in
the clubhouse. Here
he tells
Marc a story that needs gestures, as his wife, Dotty, our Regatta Chairman, hears it again and enjoys it. ... |
|
Tony
Krauss had arrived
from Virginia. |
|
Joe
De Brincat and his
son, Brian, were washing down the beautifully
re-furbished W1115 before
... |
|
...
they rigged up
Joe's radio-controlled yacht as Andrew Parks looked
on. |
|
It's
a bit of a drifter
in here, though. |
|
The
crowd begins to
gather: (l to r) Mary Abel, Marc Bennett,
Michele Parish, Peter
Rahn, Frank Goulay, |
|
Peter,
Michele, Marc
and Mary one more time |
|
Peter
Rahn and Uncle Al
in serious discussion as Richard and Michele listen
in. |
|
Mary
and Frank looking
right at home ... |
|
...
as are Peter and Al |
|
The
by now traditional
Thursday night outing to Dead River Vic's
duly took place:
Dotty and Holly (l) above. |
|
(l
to r) Bob Frick, Peter Every,
Tony Krauss and Mary Abel |
|
(l
to r) Richard and Michele,
Morris Metcalf and Andrew Parks |
|
(l to r) Mike
Murto, Marc
Bennett, Uncle Al, Richard after half a beer,
Michele
... |
|
Back
in the Murtos'
trailer home, Marc and Mike discuss strategy for
tomorrow's first day
of racing .... |
|
...
while Dotty checks
her e-mail in Al's bedroom. |
|
Friday
morning arrived
cold, damp and windy, and we reflected on how much
nicer it was to sit
here |
|
LESC Commodore, Mike
Murto began the Competitors' Briefing at David Williams, who promptly postponed any possible racing 'til |
|
No
complaints from any
of the competitors. After all, we still had Saturday
and Sunday if
today's racing got washed out. |
|
A
pleasant place to
wait out the postponement over ... |
|
...
frequent cups of
coffee. |
|
Eddie
Kraft (W6751) |

Nick
Seraphinoff models
the latest in golfing attire for his crew, Joe
Blackmore (l)
and Frank Goulay. |

Friday
afternoon: It's
still cold and the day's racing has been abandoned
but the winds have
let up enough to have allowed a few of us to go for
a bit of a practice
sail. Lucky that Peter and Frank went out, as they
discovered that
W1395, their borrowed boat, was developing serious
structural failures,
and they have now settled on borrowed boat #2,
courtesy of Jim
Lingeman. Here, the "experts" look it over and give
advice. Despite
generous amounts of help and loaned gear, poor Frank
and Peter were
still at it well after the boat park was pitch dark,
working by the
lights of their rental car. But they got it done in
time for Saturday's
race 1 of the series!! |
