The Wayfarer Midwinters of 2005
Sunday: race 6 pics - 6

photos by Richard Kinnie

Taylor Arnold - one of our future stars!!??
...

Time to head for shore and the free lunch! Meanwhile, Joe and Brian DeBrincat were
missed by the camera as they recorded their best placing of the Midwinters: a 5th.
...

Richard Johnson and Michele pilot the Free Range Chick'n (10139) across the line in ...
...

... 6th place, which also left our North Carolina Wayfarers in series 6th.
...

By finishing a whopping seven places above their seeded position, Richard and Michele
were the Most Improved team of the 2005 Midwinters. Well done, Michele and Richard!
...

In a very close finish ...
...

... Jim Lingeman and Mike Tighe took 7th in the finale, which left them
5th overall and runners-up in the Non-Spinnaker Division.
...

A photo finish saw Geoff Edwards and Pat Reardon (9483) squeeze across the line just ahead of ...
...

... Robert Hart and Tony Krauss, while ...
...

... Eddy Kraft and John Conrader (yellow deck) managed to hang on and beat ...
...

... the onrushing Mo Metcalf and ...
...

... Andrew Parks over the line.
...

The breeze is really picking up now as Ted Benedict and his crew du jour near the line
with a main that illustrates what happens if you rag the main but don't crank on enough vang.
...

I don't want to suggest Ted's sails are old, but the last time I saw the
Scoville Sails logo (see jib) was at the 1980 Worlds in Tawas!!
...

Marc and Al (and their broken mast!) move SHADES (3854) ...
...

... smartly closer to the free beer! Note how ...
...

... Uncle Al finally made his Midwinters real by wearing his Tilley shorts!
...

Even the crowded haul-out ...
...

... was not a sad affair ...
...

... in glorious weather like this!!
