It's still a ...
...

... close fight among the three leaders.
...

Richard and Al (10139) gybe away from ...
...

... Marc to clear their air.
...

Separated by a pair of Flying Scots, Butch (l) and Gale set off down the first run.
...

White sail fleet: Eddy Kraft (555) is chased by ...
...

... Jim and Linda Heffernan (r) making their second Wayfarer debut- in a composite -
after an absence of 25 years.
Welcome back, Jim and Linda!!
...

Peter and Peter Hylen display flawless downwind two-sail form as Mike Murto and Arlen Bensen hoist their spinnaker.
Coming in from the right are Mo Metcalf with Kevin Rankin, making their approach to the offset mark.
...

Lou and Ben sailing their new W nicely upright - just as recommended!
...

Our leaders, Joe and Brian do a crisp last-second spinnaker douse, followed by ...
...

... a textbook rounding of ...
...

... the right-hand gate mark. Marc and Michele will be entitled to room from the Scot but will have to ...
...

... go some to catch Joe.
...

By going left on the run, Richard and Al (dousing the spi) have lost considerable distance.
...

The early douse was a safety play from a crew not familiar with the system, but ...
...

... now it seems to be taking the Chickin forever to reach the left-hand gate, which they will round with a view to ...
...

... going right on the second beat. Not a good move on this day
as Team Chickin would discover oh so slowly as the day wore on.
...

The Wayfarer leaders (3rd from left) wisely dig in towards the rhumb line, as Gale (4106), a Scot and Butch ...
...

... prepare for a challenging rounding of the ...
...

... right-hand mark.
...

Wily veteran that he is, Gale (4106) cuts inside at the mark and leaves himself the option of
trying to pinch out over Butch (3951) or tacking away. Butch and Gale both head left while ...
...

... tactician Al leads Richard ever further into the unfavoured side.
In the end, it was Joe and Brian DeBrincat who led from there to the finish of our 2.5 lap race. Marc and Michele took an comfortable 2nd, while Richard and Al barely held 3rd ahead of Butch (with Ellen) and Gale (with Gary). Tops among the two-sail boats were Jim and Linda Heffernan who started their come-back with a fine 6th in this, their first W race in 25 years! Well done, guys!!
