Leaders about 150 metres from the gybe mark: A crucial turning point in race #1. Here, Heider is holding the lead just ahead of Keith Haill and Ryan Mahaffey while Uncle Al (red spi) has gone well to leeward of these three. Keith ended up timing things right to pull clear ahead just before the gybe. At the two-length circle, Keith was clear ahead by about half a boatlength, while Al, Heider and Ryan were bow to bow to bow with Al on the inside. With the amazing Wayfarer Man performing one of his best gybes, Al was able to gybe and cut inside Keith, take his wind and roll on to victory in race 1. In addition to the top 4 above, from left to right we have: Roger Shepherd all alone in 5th; fighting over 6th are: Stefan Larson, John Goldi and Peter Rahn; after that, it's George Blanchard, Ivan Pedersen, Peter Ayres, Hans Gottschling, Dwight Aplevich, Randy Park (with Fred Black, I believe, spinnaker-less to windward of him), and John deBoer.
