A flawless start at the
favoured pin end for Uncle Al as the race 2 start gun goes off at 1221
in an onshore breeze that is still building very slowly. ... |
Hans Gottschling (helm) and
Zoltan Takacz in good port tack form ... |
Paul Laderoute has done it
again as he and Alan pilot Unplugged around the first windward
mark. Second around will be Peter Rahn for whom Uncle Al (3854) is just
bearing away. Al likely could have tacked just to leeward and in front
of Peter but was afraid he would foul Peter by completing his tack
inside the two-length circle. Heider (6) will continue on port and try
to squeeze in but foul Al in the process.

A speedy 720 later, Heider (l)
is again threatening Al (red spi) as virtually the whole fleet has
chosen the right side of the run thus far. threatening... |
While Hans (938) continues
towards the right side, Dwight Aplevich (Tilley hat) and Al Nichols
have gybed and will try the left side. ... |
Two W's converging on opposite
tacks. Who has right of way? Alan Hallwood in 442 or David Platt in
7218? Yep, it's the starboard tacker, Mr. Hallwood - this is one of the
reasons to defend the left side of the run if all else is equal.

Dave Platt winds the jib while
crew, Peter Seet, holds the boom out. Good form! ... |
Ivan Pedersen (helm) and his
son, Chris, make nice progress up the second beat. ... |
Bush & Cheney in
flawless upwind trim but look at the lift that George Blanchard
and Mike Codd have in CAN80!! ... |
Tony Krauss has Mostly
Harmless in good upwind form despite having to use "cruising" sails! ... |
Ab faB with Kit and Gord
looking good! ... |
Halfway down the final run,
Paul and Alan Laderoute are in their familiar first-place position
while Heider has moved back into 2nd place after banging the right
corner while the rest of the fleet went left. Risky! A depressed Uncle
Al and his limp red spi are trying to mount a comeback from their 3rd
position.

Fine trim for the leaders as
they pass the RC boat. ... |
Frank and Al down the jib for
this light air run as they pull out all the stops in an effort to catch
... ... |
... Heider and Tom ... ... |
... who are also sailing very
well. ... |
Shhh! They're getting closer!!!! ... |
4th-place Peter and Alex Rahn
gybe on the layline to the gate, as Heider moves past Paul near the
left end gate and takes the lead going onto the ... ... |
... short final beat. |
