Heider (l) and Tom in
hot pursuit .. |
Tom takes a brief moment to
greet the photographer. .. |
A lovely day for spinnakers: Fred and Ted (7379) pursue Doug
and Francoise (1366). .. |
Fred & Ted one more time .. |
Thomas and David (r)
have thing in full gear. .. |
A study in contemplation if not
concentration .. |
The Laderoutes (7380) have made
it back into 4th as they round onto the final short beat just off Kit
Wallace's bow. An interesting rounding shapes up among (l to r) Hans,
George, Geoff and Doug. Er, Geoff, the mark is down there to leeward!
.. |
The potential mark mess
continues to develop while Nick (3rd from left) has tacked and
should now tack again to place himself between his nearest pursuers and
the finish line. .. |
No mistakes in this one as
Frank and Al place a convincing first and tie the series. .. |
A fine second for Heider and
Tom ... .. |
... while today's 3rd marks a
vast improvement from three 9ths for Nick and Marc. .. |
A nice recovery into 4th place
for Paul and Alan. .. |
Following Kit Wallace and Gord
Leachman (5th) and Ivan and Chris Pedersen (6th) across the line were
Hans and Zoltan. .. |
A fifth and deciding race was
begun in a fine hiking breeze off the lake. The entire fleet moved well
up the first beat but once again, it was Paul Laderoute who rounded
first, just ahead of Heider, Al and Kit. An exciting run ensued, so
exciting that Joanne must have set the camera to aperture priority once
more - see photos below! Too bad, because in some you could see just
enough to tell the action was great but too overexposed for use. The
two below were the most rescuable. ...

By the time the leaders passed
the RC boat, Kit (1037) had moved past both Heider and Al who were very
engrossed in ... .. |
... fighting each other (above).
Near the leeward mark, Al had managed to manoeuvre Heider into a bad
spot behind him while gaining the inside edge to be first around the
left-hand mark. But Paul and Kit, going for the right-hand mark would
round 1-2 with a narrow lead, and unless either Heider or Al won the
race, the championship would remain a tie since this would become the
drop race and both Heider and Al would count 1-1-2-2. But there was an
even faster way to create a tie. Just as the leaders were about to
round onto beat two, there was the loud crash of thunder and a few fine
jagged bolts of lightning and the RC wisely abandoned any further
racing.
