the
Wayfarer North Americans Tawas Bay YC * Sept. 10-11, 2005 Sunday photos by Emily Seraphinoff and Uncle Al |
Sunday morning dawned sunny
and warm with a hint of good breeze to come and more than a hint of ... ... |
... a few hangovers. But
the Saturday night party at the club was a lot of fun!! ... |
Frank Goulay angles his
spreaders a bit further forward to give himself a tighter leech in the
anticipated breezier conditions. ... |
Joe (l) and Bob
look on. ... |
(l to r) Marc, Frank
and Joe investigate the W1115 lack of pointing. ... |
With the Tawas Coast Guard
Station in the background ... ... |
... the first- and
second-place boats are ready for Sunday's racing. ... |
It's a better breeze today
all right as the RC and its camera watch the W's exit the TBYC harbour. ... |
Uncle Al and Marc check out
the windward leg and talk strategy. ... |
Don Thwing casts an eagle
eye upwind, too. ... |
Frank and Joe lead race 5
in flawless form down the first run. ... |
Doug and Chris Ryan also
look great on their way to an excellent 3rd - their best finish of the
series. ... |
Frank (l) was
holding a narrow lead over Al as they rounded onto the second beat, and
Doug was right there, too. Alas, Doug's fast approaching rounding does
not look like it will be a smooth one!! ... |
Al did
pass Frank on the
second beat but Frank returned the favour on the second run and
broke Al's inside overlap just before the two-length zone. But then
Frank and Joe had to rush
their take-down which they - not unexpectedly - messed up, allowing Al
and Marc to score yet another first.
... |
Just after the start of the
final race: note most of the boats heading left ... ... |
... in keeping with conventional local wisdom. Note also, how with Marc Bennett now at the helm, SHADES
(r) really suffers no performance drop-off!! |
