Alastair and Annelies (10137) have sailed a fine second beat in both the boat speed and strategy departments, and will ...
...

... round 4th, just behind Heider and Tom who have just completed an admirably quick spinnaker set.
...

Not far back, in 5th, are Peter and Linda (300) while Mark and Paul are well placed to make some gains on this final run to the finish. Nick and Julia have dropped a bit to 7th but they, too, don't need to gain much to pass some boats.
...

Mike Codd has Redtop looking like a submarine starting a crash dive, but overall moving very well.
...

He and Kirk will round 8th just ahead of ...
...

... Tommy and Stefan.
...

Crew, Chris Walroth, starts to ready the pole as Ed Tait nears the mark. But alas, Ed discovers that he can't ...
...

... lay the mark and will need to throw in two more quick tacks. Looks like Mike (CAN 90) has Kirk about to do a chucker with the spinnaker. Whatever it was, it seems to ...
...

... have worked as the spinnaker is up and flying. Note how most of the leaders are more or less sailing the rhumbline straight towards the finish line. Jason and Lori (3140) are coming in and looking good on port tack, and are on their way to an appreciably better result.   for full-size pic, click here; then use Back button to return to this page
...

Their pair of quick tacks have really slowed Ed and Chris (825) down, but they do manage to round without incident. On the right side, Mark, Nick (pink spi) and Tommy (60) are sailing way high of the rhumb line.   for full-size pic, click here; then use Back button to return to this page
...

A fair bit of wasted distance for Ed on this rounding, and we'll see if Hans (938) can take advantage.
...

Jason and Lori tack for the mark just in front of (l to r) Graham, Geoff and Fred, and then ...
...

... round very nicely.
...

One of the nice things about runs, is that they give lots of strategic scope, almost as much as beats.

Fred approaches the windward mark under the ...

Ted and Colin near the mark in fine port-tack trim.
...

A nice, smooth tack, and then ...
...

... they're off onto a two-sail run.
...

Our photographers got some great action shots on this, the final leg.
...

Perfect form for the Kozaks: While Linda gives the spi her entire concentration,
Peter holds the boom out and stands so that he can easily adjust the heel to minimize helm.

Bastian (l) and Hans and The Nutshell
...

While Lori focuses on the spinnaker, Jason keeps the boom out and keeps a ...
...

... good lookout. Already, they're sailing the waves with veteran poise. Well done!
...

George and his helm, Geoff. If someone tightened the windward barberhauler, the spi sheet would stop rubbing George's PFD.

Graham and crew, Gary

Fred and his crew, Michael, do a quick fix before snapping ...
...

... their attention back to the matter at hand.
