Conveniently for Al (3854), Mark (7673) and Alastair (to windward of Al) have tacked to go left,
a move which paid on the first beat. This will pretty much leave Al with clear air.

Dwight (r) tacks to go left and to clear his air.
...

Rob (7372) tacks but will end up in Dwight's backwind. Even if he is sure the left side will be favoured,
he might do better to wait another few seconds by which time he'll end up in clear air.

Frank (2nd from left) has tacked to stay with his closest threats who are heading left. This leaves Al (3854) in clear air, except perhaps for Heider (r). Still, there is no reason to think the left side won't be favoured again, so that Al will play it safe and join three of the four boats who have rounded ahead of him and who are going left, as soon as he can tack into clear air.   - click here for full-size image

Et voilá! Al (r) has tacked over. Aboard 2679, Emily has forgotten the pole in all the excitement,
but Ed (2412) won't be close enough to take advantage of any difficulties this might cause aboard Vamoose VI.

Fast forward to the final-leg run: Hull-speed winds, just what Frank and Kim need to hold their lead as the spinnakers
won't make the rest of any faster than hull speed today. Kim and Frank will indeed win race 2 in comfort and style.
...

On their way to a fine 2nd-place finish are Alastair and Dave who will just barely edge out ...
...

... Al and Dave who are quite pleased with their come-back after rounding 8th off the first beat.
Nothing fancy or risky, just a little nibble here, a bite there, and let the rest take care of itself.
...

Dwight (4606) is on his way to completing a nice come-back of his own with a fine 4th ahead of Heider (600).
The latter again gambled on the right corner but this time, he lost big.
...
Not a good series start for Mark and Paul, our Canadian champions and pre-regatta favourites on their home course.
Here, they are on their way to a 6th, for a two-race total of nine points (3-6) already.
...

A TSCC duel: They'll finish as they lie here - Kit 7th and Mike 8th.
...
Sue and Steph have moved up a bit, to 9th, just ahead of ...
...

... Colin with Martin, and ...
...

... Jim with Linda.
