It's barely 1 p.m. and the
finale is about to get underway - a windward-leeward. - click here

A pair of happy campers:
Dolores
and John de Boer ... |
Although they can't do any
worse
than a tie for first, Marc and Al will lose the tie-breaker if Dwight and Pat win this race. - click here for full-size pic ... |
So Marc has decided he
should
crew in this race rather than get his turn at the helm. ... |
The breeze is still a good
healthy one as Al (l)
and
Dave H. check out the line. ... |
Ready to let it all hang
out are
Al and Marc. ... |
Breanne and her dad, Ross ... |
Looks like Jason will get
to
helm Green Side Up
in this
one. ... |
It is indeed a glorious day
to
be sailing! ... |
Al and Marc (3854) have
aced the
start at the slightly favoured windward end. In more wind
than most of
can hold down, Dave and Kim (4782) have a pretty nice start as well, since Al's backwind won't hurt them excessively. ... |
A starboard lift is bad
news for
Dwight (5th from
right), especially
if Al can force himself not to pinch and sail lower but
faster to
"shift-proof" his lead over Dwight. If Al stays to
windward and astern,
the next knock will take away all or much of his lead,
but if he can
end up to windward (less) and ahead, even a knock won't
do much for
Dwight. - click here

A poor start for John who
now
tacks away onto a knocked port tack to clear his air: (l to r) John, Geoff, Tony, Fred, Michael ... |
Ah, and a well-trimmed
bunch we
are, too!

Jason (3140) and Andy (555)

tacked to clear their air - and especially wise move since
starboard
has been knocked. - click here for full-size pic ... |

Looking lovely on port are

A fine mood as the two
Daves
(Hansman [282] and Richardson) battle it out upwind. ... |
And now the fleet bears
down on
the RC boat ... - click here

... with Uncle Al (red
spi) and
Dwight (4606) battling it out for the lead. Keep an eye
on John de Boer
(blue and green spi) who has had a sub-par first beat
but will now
begin to thread his way through the fleet in an amazing
come-back that
will take him and Dolores all the way back to 3rd place
by the finish!!

While eager to sail the
shortest
course along the rhumb line, Al will ... ... |

left
side (windward here) against Dwight as necessary. - click here

Hull speed weather. In this
wind, pretty much everyone will easily do hull speed
downwind even
without a spinnaker, as Dave and Carol Hansman demonstrate, hanging right in there with Al and Dwight as they pass the RC boat. |
