the 2007 North Bay Wayfarer Weekend
Tues 3 July: Trout Lake Poker Race - 1
photos (mostly) by Julia & Al Schonborn

Local knowledge acquired: less than a mile south of the club, at the corner of Callander Bay Drive and Hwy 654? ...
...

... Wasi Variety and gas station has a cozy little restaurant that ...
...

... serves a mean breakfast, starting good and early. Having stoked up, we all drove back past the NBYC to pick up our boats. But first, Julia and Al had to strike our tent, etc. that Marc had left for Julia and me to take care of in light of his 0400 hrs departure back to Toronto and work. Imagine our delight when we arrived at the top of the hill to discover that Andrew, Jason and Lori had long since taken care of all that! Who could ask for better friends??!!
...

With our fleet tripled from four to twelve boats this year,
Bob Brown's spacious driveways were well filled with Wayfarers!
...

(l to r) Andrew, Jason and Lori have arrived.
...

As have Joan and Andy.

Dolores helps John get their main onto the boom.
...

Mary and Tony: a nice, long jib sheet that can accommodate a whisker pole.
...
Mmmm. Someone's got a hot chocolate!! Lucky Kennedy!!
...

The Hansman family will be well represented today: (l to r) Dave, his mom Shirley, his daughter Erinn Martyn with her daughter Kennedy, Carol, and her father-in-law Charlie. Shirley and Charlie will man waypoint #2 on the beach in Dugas Bay, while Erinn once more will be up to her knees in the waters off Lounsbury Bay at waypoint #3.
...

The parking spaces begin to fill up.
...
Andrew will again be sailing with Michele (2nd from left).
...

Kennedy with her great-grandmother, Shirley

Kennedy and Erinn, ready for duty

Those two old salts, Fred Black and Pat Onions will team up today.
...

Launched and loaded??
...

John Simmonds is dressed and ready to go.
...

Klaus and Jacob von Chorus are set to crew with Henry Van Brussel (r) aboard W3125.
...

Better them than me: with the odd healthy puff coming in straight off the water, I wouldn't be caught dead launching with the sails up. Quite apart from the potential for boat damage, I would shudder at the possibility of entertaining those watching ...
...

... with an array of potential disasters.
...

Still, all's well that ends well!
