The second beat (the long one) as Cathy Jessup saw it from the club.

Something's gotta give here: Both Dave (4782) and Sue (937) are lifted to the extent that they are sailing at perhaps 45° to each other. Both should be prepared for a major knock which one of them is bound to get - and soon! Meanwhile, Dave and Kim will also have to make sure they don't foul the starboard boat, Sue.
...

Even in wide open water, there were many wind streaks that let one boat sail 30° higher (Alastair here) than another (Frank, 648) that was only a few lengths away, If Frank does not get lifted in the next few seconds, he should tack (and yell "Starboard!" as he does so).
...

Frank and Kim cruise the Callander waterfront in KGB.
...

It's lonely at the top! Mark and Paul Taylor in flawless upwind form.
...

In one of our safety boats, Trevor Hughes and Lori Jamieson keep an eye on her husband, Ross, who - as though by magic -
...

... suddenly gets a major lift! Nice! I wish my wife would do that for me!!!
...

Wow! Just look at this!! The corollary must be: Don't get on the wrong side of Lori!!
...

Off to the right, meanwhile: (l to r) Dave H, Alastair, Frank (who seems to have overcome Alastair's earlier lift), Dwight, Al N.
...

Heading right and nicely balanced but in a bit of a lull, are Michele and Al.
...

Ah! That's better - a hiking breeze!
...

Another knock means a tack that has given Uncle Al the chance to pull up his shorts.
Next year: suspenders????? What a fashion statement that should be!!!
...

A nice lift and perfect wind strength for Dave and Kim
...

The musical chairs continues for this group where Frank (648) has fallen behind Alastair (10137) again.
...

Great lift for Taylor and Ryan, who won't, however, want to let their boat heel this much for too long!!
...

Watching the fun from RC boat are Julia (seated)  and Doreen.
...

Al N (7380) and Frank (648) head left on a starboard that looks to be "nothing to write home about", but will pay, as we shall see!
...

The run: Al and Michele (l) have caught up a bit on Mark and Paul, and will level the playing field by popping the chute
in this nice soft spot. Frank and Kim (r) have meanwhile moved into 3rd place by cutting across to the left at just the right time.
...

Al's spinny went up just in time, too, because here is the next gust, one in which Alastair and Andrew are having to hoist.

Nice people that they are, Michele and Al bring Mark and Paul a gust.
...

Serious concentration here as the leaders are about to pass the RC boat half-way down the run!!
...
A glorious day, one would have to say.
...

SHADES moves nicely along as she ...
...

... passes the RC boat.
...

Complete concentration by Michele.
...

Alastair and Andrew have the chute up, but unless they can plane, they will gain little, since both boats are doubtless doing hull speed.
Just to help things a bit, Frank (648) does it "by the book": Down with the puff (to stay in it longer!) - and what a fine puff it is, too!
...

Al and Ken (7380) are enjoying this gust equally.
...

A lovely ride for Alastair and Andrew, too!!
...

Kim and Frank will leave the RC boat to port, just to keep the photographers on their toes!
