Winds are picking up a bit out ...
..........

... here.
..........

Meantime, Dave and Kim have picked up the wind again after working their way through the wind shadow of ...
..........

... Falconbridge Island (r). But Al and Julia have gained enough that Dave begins to try to cover SHADES where ...

..........

Dave wisely tacks to avoid getting too close to the windward shore.
..........

And a nice tack it is, too.
..........

The finish flag is in sight and Dave appears to have first place locked up as seen from 2nd-place Al's boat here, and by ...

... Dolores de Boer on shore at the finish line. But note the dead spot spreading across the water.
Al's (3rd from right) last hope! And not much of one at that!!
..........

We'll give the crowd at the finish some excitement yet!!
..........

Still looks hopeless for Al (r), but ...

... Dave and Kim (4782) tack to be able to lay the beach.

They look to have it in the bag (as they say in the Gladys Song, which I learned in Junior Sailing in 1954. Click here for one of the YouTube versions - or here.)
..........

But wait, a giant horseshoe descends, giving Al a gust and a lift.
..........

Here, Al (r) thinks he's done the unthinkable by stealing this win from Dave, only to be told  that this year it's not enough to just pass the end of the dock. This year it has to be left to port. But Al still has enough momentum to coast the needed little S-curve and give Dave a really serious ...

... run ...
..........

... for his money!! Well sailed, Dave and Kim! Congratulations!!
..........

Looks like Sue and Roger will finish 3-4.
..........

A nice puff sends Sue across the finish line in fine style.
..........

Roger on the other hand, loses the wind.
And both he and John are trying to tack towards the streak that Sue was just using.
..........

And it's another very close finish in which John and Ross steal 4th place from ...
..........

... Roger and Raewyn (7700).
