You would have loved the CDR.
Wind was from the west-south-west at about 15 knots to 18 knots with
gusts 25 to 30 knots. Big wave action. We sailed virtually
due south (190 deg heading) with the CB up 1/3, not quite on a beam
reach. Lots of planing and riding the waves.
Had to make one short tack to make it around J9, then we headed SE down
the channel with the wind moving around to the SSW. We were on
plane from J9 right to the island, and this was under main and jib only
- what a ride! As we entered the channel, we raised the chute and
rode that all the way back to the club, again on plane most of the
time. The little seminar chute
work in windy conditions you
did on Sunday
really came in
handy on Tuesday, thanks.
We raised quite a stir as we blew by several keel boats – and one was cheering us
as we passed by them (although they said they were too busy hanging on
to take photos). Dave and I were the 5th boat to
cross the finish line. We did the whole route well under 2 hours
due to the huge winds. Sue and Steph had an equally fun ride but
they were at least 10 minutes behind us. Steph kissed the ground
as he staggered off their W - it was hard work!
Good party and music ensued. All in all, an excellent Canada
Day. Will send results and photos that I can get hold of.
Best regards,
Dave
