Sunday: Race 6.5
by Kim Bergevin & Doug Netherton

...

Andrew and Phil (4610) head on up the beat after the slight bump from Bill who will now ...
...

... get out of the way and do his Two-Turns Penalty while Dave (282) proceeds to ...
...

... round the leeward mark.
...

Tim (7346) rounds, followed by ...
...

... Robin.
...

After a beat on which the key was to keep one's eyes peeled for the best wind strength and to go for that at practically any cost, Marc (nearest the camera) is getting close to the windward mark on a nice starboard lift. Note how high he is pointing compared to Jamie (4594).
...

A slight heel to make the sails set a touch better and to make us feel like we're going faster.
...

Note the complete lack of tension along the luffs as Marc ...
...

... shoots and checks the mark while at the same time heeling the boat to windward to help SHADES bear away.
...

... onto the run.
...

Excellent light-air trim for Andrew (r) and Dave who will round 2-3.
...

A gybe set for Marc and Al who are less concerned with a fast hoist and set, than with keeping the boat from bouncing around and the main out.
...

Andrew (l) begins to ease the main as Wind Shadow gets set to ...
...

... round. Note the windward heel to help the turn.
...

Gybe ho, and they're off in ...
...
... pursuit of Marc and Al.
...
Dave and Carol round a ...
...

... close 3rd.
...

Dave also ...
...

... gybes to port before hoisting.
...
It's a windward hoist for Carol.
...
Easy to do on a run.
...
Father and son in quality time??
...
So far, this run falls well short of ...
...

... being exhilarating!!!
