With the wind in a port-tack knocked phase (as evidenced by the much closer second reach), Brian and Dave should be considering a tack to starboard which is of course correspondingly favoured.
...

Note that Bill (yellow) has indeed tacked. Brian (6082) has been much too nice to Dave who is being allowed to stick his bow in to windward of Brian's transom where Dave can now block Brian from tacking.
...
The point becomes moot as Dave has tacked.
...

Brian does look good here, speed- and trimwise, but if he sails into the expected lift, Dave will be on the inside of it after he tacks. On the right, Al and Marc continue to defend the windward mark against Bill.
...

Lovely form for Brian and John in Afternoon Delight.
...

Look at that John hike!! But with all due respect, this is a high risk/low reward situation Brian is going into. He'd need a big shift or dose of extra wind to move up from the 3rd place he now holds. All he's doing is letting Dave have a good shot at moving past him into 3rd, when by staying with Dave, Brian would enter into a symbiotic relationship with Dave since the two could then boatspeed test against one another!

Relaxing times aboard the Robert M. Holdham, although PRO, Mike Trant, remains alert
for the possible need for course changes.

Regatta Chair, Robin Allardyce, favours the photography boat with the smile
that must have gotten all those LDSC members to volunteer to help with the Ontarios.

A lovely smile from Carolyn as well.

Regardless of your position in the race ...
...

... this was a lovely morning on which to be alive and sailing.
...

Al and Marc have successfully defended the windward mark against Bill (r).
...

Marc checks our position relative to the mark.
...

Aha! I knew we had overdone the heel-to-windward bit on one of our roundings. I think I lost my grip on the mainsheet here, but this sure did encourage SHADES to bear away onto the run!!
...

Having already plotted to gybe and defend the left side of the run (other things being equal), we gybed tout de suite. In the background we see Dave (l) and Bill (behind our jib) coming in from the left side of the beat.
...

Spinnaker hoist time, but we must keep an eye out for Bill who will be ...
...

... tacking towards the mark (and us!!) and who will be on starboard.
