Being pretty sure of laying the mark, Al and Marc take a few seconds to confirm strategy for the upcoming first reach. Here ...
...

... they are making sure they know where the gybe mark is, so that Al will know where to steer after he rounds.
...

Meanwhile, an interesting battle shapes up over 4th place: While Andrew H. (9657) is about to tack for the mark, Jamie (green deck), John (7351) and Colin (CL16) are just about dead even and appear to all be laying the mark (where I believe our photographer is sitting). Jamie's crew, Ben, looks with justifiable concern at John who is to leeward and edging ever closer. It is clear that footing off will not let Jamie move ahead of John and take his wind. So, right about now, Jamie must crank his main in and go into pinching mode. Even if this slows him down and makes him drop behind John, he will still be on a line to lay the mark. In any case, that option would have been preferable to ...
...

... this, where Jamie has to slow down radically and is then ...
...

... panicked into a tack. Still, if Jamie tacks back now, he may still get around ahead of John and Colin who now have troubles of their own as Tony roars in and sails over their wind. Alas, we'll never know how this turned out since there are -puzzlingly - no more pictures of this sequence.
...

How can we tell that Andy is more used to keelboats still, than Wayfarers?
...

Port Tack Too is heeling way too much and Andy is fighting the resulting weather helm with his rudder.
He should ease the main and flatten the boat here.
...

The second reach: Al and Marc have finally passed the spinnaker-less Buttercup team of Bill and Deirdre.
...

But wait. Is Bill going to pass Al to windward? Perhaps briefly, but Al will stay low and eventually his spinnaker will ...
...

... make the difference. As can be seen from relative mast heights,
Sue is sailing well to leeward of Bill to give her spinnaker a chance to let her break through.
...

The leeward mark at the end of that reach: Having helped Al get the main in quickly, Marc now fine tunes the jib
as SHADES begins the second beat in first place. Bill, meanwhile, will end up ...
...

...inside of Sue (4677) who will round a close 3rd, not too far ahead of ...
...

... Frank (648) who has made an amazing come-back, even with just two sails, and now sits 4th, just ahead of John.
By the end of the race, Frank and John will have moved up to finish 2-3 behind Al, relegating Sue to 4th and Bill to 5th.
...

It'll be a close 6th for Tony at the leeward mark, just ahead of Jamie (4594) and Andrew H (9657).
...

We finish Saturday's pictures with a classic sequence of ...
...

... Dave and Carol Hansman working their way up Lac Deschênes in their beloved ...
...

... Banshee.
