Pumpkin Regatta October 1-2, 2005 Race 2 pics, part 2 by Marc Bennett |
Down the second run, we had
a good race with Kevin Biskaborn, whose ... ... |
... fine downwind form Marc
was moved to capture photographically as Uncle Al was entrusted with
the
spinnaker. Al managed that OK, but did get ... ... |
... in the way as Marc
suddenly switched his focus to Steve Dietrich off to leeward. Then,
just as Marc was about to put his camera away, we saw a Laser succumb
to a gust in front of us, and of course, this was an ... ... |
... opportunity not to be missed!! Not
only did Rick Goldt supply our entertainment here, he also supplied us
with captions: "Hey, guys, good timing, watch this."
... |
"It's called riding the rails......what
style!"
... |
"OK,
enough of that."
... |
"I think I'll just sit here and watch
the boats go by."
... |
"Hey, wait for me!!"
Meanwhile, sailing up into the puff and then coming down with it, has
let SHADES move away from Kevin (61007) and Steve (11), not to
mention ... ... |
... our fellow Wayfarers in
the distance. The wind has continued to gain strength and here, Rick (l),
Kevin (61007) and Steve (11) are bringing a nice gust to SHADES. ... |
And a beautiful sight it
was. ... |
A gorgeous day on which to
be alive and sailing! ... |
This was a lovely gust that
we would carry right around mark 1 where we would gybe our spinnaker
onto a ... ... |
... short, fairly close
reach to the finish. Unfortunately, by the time Marc had handed
the spi sheet back to Al and fished the camera out that neat Hans
Gottschling spinnaker bag, the best of the gust had passed. But (l
to r) Kevin, Steve and Rick still look pretty ...
... |
... nice here as we ... ... |
... near the finish line. ... |
Aah! Here's another ... ... |
... nice puff. John and
Dolores (4th from left), meanwhile have moved very well to take
a solid grip on 2nd among the W's. ... |
It was a lovely scene that
moved my crew to snap again and ... ... |
... again and ... ... |
... again and ... ... |
... one last time before we and the puff finished. ... |
Following John and Dolores
to the finish line were Joe and Mike (1115) in 3rd place, and Mike and
Kirk (CAN90) in 4th. ... |
Already finished after once
around were Mike and Alex in the Lightning, Mark with Charlie in the
420, and ... ... |
... Nikki (r) and
Sorin in their Laser 2. ... |
Bob and Ravi (3571) roll
towards Wayfarer 5th and have a good race with ... ... |
... Jon Dietrich in his Laser while they're at it! ... |
A nice gusty reach home
for these four: Jim MacKenzie and Drew Petti Place (Y2548) leads the
Y-Flyers by a narrow margin over Richard and Lisa King (2754) as the
faster Y's have passed Dave and Ross (282) who will take Wayfarer 6th.
Ed Hone and Andrew Milley (l) are lying 3rd in Y's, ahead
of Peter James and J. Fredin (3rd from left).
... |
Flying to the finish! ... |
Jim and Drew hold their
lead over ... ... |
... Richard and ... ... |
... Lisa.. ... |
Dave Hansman and Ross
Jamieson romp home in fine form. ... |
Michael Tidy moves his
Laser smartly towards the finish. |
