the second lap of Race 1

The second run: Wayfarers coming up towards the Race Hut area from a gybe at mark #4: (l to r) John, Dwight, Mike, Dave

The perfect breeze continues.
...

Dwight and Pat about to pass the cliff. Textbook spi trim: Note how the lower half of the spi is at right angles to the water surface.
...

Mike and Kirk in fine trim
...

Likewise John and Dolores
...

A gybe was called for as we ...
...

... passed the Race Hut and ...
...

... turned a bit of a corner to ...
...

...head for #2.
...

The "moorings effect"?  Jens shows that the run is now a close spi reach.
...

Sue has not yet reached that part of the leg.
...

Great trim all around due to serious concentration by John and Dolores
...

Now that the wind has come forward, Dwight and Pat need to adjust their pole forward (and down?).
...

Even here, the spi is either oversheeted or the pole too far aft - as evidenced by the spi foot curling in towards the jib too much.
Sailing books I've seen suggest that the lower part of the spi should be more or less perpendicular to the water surface.
...

The home stretch towards ...
...

... mark #2. Jens has passed Frank (188724).
...

Mike and Kirk: pole further forward takes spi foot off the jib here and makes it more perpendicular to the water.
...

Sue (4677) pursues Jens (7663) and Frank near mark #2.
...

Dwight and Pat have Eclairelle looking very nice here.
...

Peeking through the foliage at extreme zoom, we can see that Sue is making Jens a bit nervous.
...

John and Dolores off the far cliff.
...

Pole down a bit would help this chute.
