Clear air for Roger who now has a great lift on starboard, a lift that is letting him ...
...

... Dwight and ...
...

... Sue virtually lay #6 (see chart of top of this page).
...

Al will sail on port here only until he can tack without needlessly blanketing Roger.
...

The Laser leaders approach #6, while Y-Flyers, Ed Hone (2687) and Richard King (2794) begin their 2nd-leg run.
...

It's a close battle as most of the W's ...
...

... approach the windward mark.
...

As can be judged from looking at the Lasers, we still have some way to go, however.
...

Noticeably absent from this group of W leaders is Jens Biskaborn who, after his great start, has held starboard until the figurative cows come home. A risky move, separating yourself from the fleet like that when you're leading and it's this early in the race. One big shift, and the others could all end up rounding ahead of you. In this instance, however, Jens not only got away with it, but he also extended his lead.

The run from #6 to a Pumpkin mark off the moorings: It's close among the Y's:
Pierre (2776), Richard (2794) and Ed (2687) sitting 1-2-3, exactly the way they will finish.

Meanwhile, the Open Fleet start has gone. Roy Elworthy crosses Shawn Pyne.

Robert (2778) and Kevin on the home stretch to the Pumpkin mark.

Frank Harmgardt leads this ...

This panoramic view shows 2nd place Al (red spi) sticking closer to the eat shore in hopes of catching a funnelling (stronger) breeze.

...

Jens and Sharon, meanwhile, are closer to the west shore and far enough ahead so as to be missing from this shot.

...

Al and Julia actually did gain by hugging the east shore - a (hopefully) calculated risk. Shawn and Andrew, meantime,
slog their way up the beat in a Siren, a boat that no one can get to perform well.

I assume that's Brad gybing around the Pumpkin mark just ahead of Rick, while Jamie prepares to follow suit in his Y.

Close race in the Lasers here: (r to l) Jacob, Matt, Jon, Kevin, Steve, Ben

At the Pumpkin mark: Evidently Kevin (187414) has managed an inside overlap
and should come out of this ahead of Jon (179167), Matt (40) and Jacob (r).

Oops! Maybe not. The camera has lied ...

... again!
