Len and Andy looking great under full sail - but what the heck are they doing this close to the beach near #4??!!
...
Then again, maybe the previous shot was a trick of the zoom lens.

Yet another different angle: the W leaders, Jens and Al have just passed the Race Hut.

...

Defending the left not only puts Al (3854) in line for buoy room but he'll also have the right of way
if he and Jens (7663) should meet - either because Al will be starboard or, if Jens gybes, leeward.
...

While Julia gives her spi 100% concentration, Al watches all else - including Jens!!

A gybe for Mystic
...

Quick! Who would you rather be here, Roger (7700) or Jeff???
Roger is at the mercy of Jeff who has Roger trapped on the outside since a gybe puts Roger on port.
Jeff is also well placed to be on the inside at the next rounding.
...

Only the apparent mast height proves that Al (3854) is not nearly as close to Jens (7663) as the zoom lens would have us believe. Lots of close Laser action after the rounding, meanwhile: (l to r) Sue Goldt to windward of Hannah Waitschies, Sorin Popa, Paddy MacCallum

And well up on those four is Ben Harrison (179220) as Jens and Al ...

... draw a bead on the Pumpkin mark where they will need to gybe before starting their second beat.
...
More of a side view of the top three W's near the leeward mark: Jens > Al > Mike.
Meanwhile, Sue Goldt (dark blue hull) has the Laser Radial lead over Hannah Waitschies at the start of their second beat.
...

Frank Harmgardt has it all under control.

Invasion with moorings and dark clouds (just practising in case I ever want a job naming works of art!)
...

Wayfarer with Race Hut and Laser. Well, actually, Jeff and Vera (7220) cruise past the Hut while Jacob (170654) goes west.
...

As Jamie Alexander and Gilbert Gelineau (Y2667) get their second beat well underway, Jens and Al get set to gybe around the mark. While those two reap the rewards of having sailed closer to the rhumb line (a more straight-line mark-to-mark course), (l to r) Sue, Mike and Dwight will now pay for having gone so far right.

Ben heads left towards the moorings, or is it the ...

A fine sky for photography as Roger pursues Mike, and ...

... Jeff (7220) chases John.

Lovely form and lovely lighting
