...

Pretty fine form for SHADES off the Race Hut.
...

Al keeps his eyes on the "big picture", i.e. out of the boat, while Julia ...
...

... gives the spinnaker her very best.
...

Jens will lose some of his lead when he has to bear away to reach mark #2 that Al is sailing directly towards.
...

Also on the rhumb line to #2 and in perfect trim are Pat and Dwight.
...

Coming up on Dwight and Jens from astern, Al was able to avoid/prepare for wind oddities enough that he and Julia were in fact very close behind Jens and Dwight who were virtually tied as they reached #2. All we needed was a good rounding, but alas things did not go as planned. Spi douse difficulties provoked significant and very audible communication between helm and crew - the only time that happened all weekend. Needless to say, instead of rounding within a boatlength of Dwight and Jens, and being able to quickly tack into clear air towards the moorings that had been good to people on the last beat, we limped around a few boatlengths back and ended up with Dwight's and Jens' left-overs.
...

Sue and Steph (4677) have moved up to challenge Mike and Kirk for 4th place, and will have buoy room at this rate.
...

Looking good but not overly happy with their race position are ...
...
... John and Dolores. Meanwhile, Radials leader, Hannah, keeps a wary eye on Silverfox coming up fast from leeward.
...

Roger brings a nice puff from astern as ...
...

... he (7700) and Len (6732) move up to challenge Jeff and Vera.
...

Jeff and Vera and the Bloody Thing
...

Len and Andy show how it should be done.
...

Cliff view of MacTack: No matter what the angle, Len and Andy are looking fine.
...

Roger and Raewyn are trucking right along, too. (trucking, get it??!!)
...

I'm proud that we Wayfarers show such fine form and ability all up and down our fleet.
...

At the finish line: Richard King grabs a close Y-Flyer 2nd, just ahead of Ed Hone.
...

A comfortable Laser first for Brad Biskaborn who can now ...
...

... plane back to the docks and rest up for race #3.
...

A nice come-back for Jacob Prapavessis (170654) to take Laser 2nd, right after Kevin (2581) takes Y-Flyer 5th.
...

Rick Goldt is no doubt disappointed with his 3rd after being so near the lead starting the short final beat.
...

Keeping a very wary eye out for starboard boats are Dwight and Pat who know that Jens and Al are
out there close by, and will be coming across on starboard.
...

Escorted by Y-Flyers on whom they've caught up well over 10 minutes over the course of this race, Dwight and Pat take the Wayfarer first. As I recall, it was Y2546 at whom Julia yelled starboard at about this time, an unfortunate excess of zeal, since I had intended to let him cross and then tack and squeeze across the line at its far leeward end. Instead, Julia's hail convinced the Y to tack into the very spot I wanted. Of course, his tack was slow, and that slowed us down until we could lay the mark. A small thing but one that killed our final hope of sneaking past ...
...
... Jens and Sharon who thus held a well earned Wayfarer 2nd after sailing a fine race.
