Dear Donny,

Our sailing group met and camped at Hermit Island in 2005 and 2008.  We would like to return again next year (2011).  In the past I was able to make a special arrangement with you to get everyone located together along the Branch .... Our plans are to stay 7 days, arriving on Sat. Aug. 20, 2011 (except for me, who will arrive Fri. Aug. 19 - 8 days) and depart Sat. Aug. 27.

In 2008 I was able to send you a letter prior to January 1st. giving you a list of names with addresses to which to assign specific sites and whom to send billings.  Please let me know if I can do the same for 2011.

We love camping and sailing at Hermit Island and look forward to holding many more events there.

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi Dick,

Thanks for the info on your group. We crank everything up here in January and I'll get things set up. You'll hear from me after the first of the year. Hope you all have a great Holiday.  Donny.

Dick, Do you plan on keeping your sailboats at the Yankee dock or renting space at the marina? I have completed your reservations, they will go out in tomorrows mail. Thanks, Donny

Thanks Donny,

Believe it or not, a couple of participants from the last time were sorry they rented dock space.  The marina dock is fine, but they felt as if they were missing out on some of the adventure by not having to negotiate the narrows.  At this point I think we will all be staying at the Yankee dock or will pick up a mooring.

Happy 2011...........DICK

Hi, Dick et al:

I can't recall if it was Donny who told me as I was leaving in 2008 that he might be able to arrange for our group to race with the local one-designs on their race day - Wednesday? I could go for that as a nice little change of pace. What does everyone think - if indeed that possibility still exists?

Best regards,

Uncle Al  (W3854)

Kit, The name of the club is Small Point Yacht Club. I could get ahold of them and ask if they would race with you. I will call prior to your arrival. What do you think?  Donny

Hi Donny,

That sounds fine. We should try to make contact with the Small Point Yacht Club a couple of weeks before we arrive. Is Wednesday evening definitely their race night? Not everyone in our group may be interested in racing, but there should be three or four boats, I would think.

As I recall, they sail in the afternoon on Wednesday as per page http://www.wayfarer-international.org/WIC/International.Rallies/2008/08IR37.html
near the bottom of that page?

Best regards,

Al & Kit,

I find it interesting how the two of you can race all summer and yet are still chomping at the bit to join a pick-up race at this cruising rally.  Without consulting me at all, you are considering locking in a day when a long cruise might be a more desirable choice.  This is a marvelous cruising area, so why would Jane and I want to spend several hours running around some buoys out in Small Point Harbor.

Time and weather don't provide an unlimited number of opportunities for exploring and cruising.  Unfortunately, there is a predominance of racers at this year's rally.  Should those of us non-racers plan our own program and let you racers do your thing?

DICK

Now, Dick. Take it easy! If you will go to the bottom of this email, you will note that right at the very beginning, I was consulting you and everyone else going to the Rally in the democratic traditions of the US, Canada and other pirates.

Now that we've had some positive feed-back for the idea, let me explain why it appeals to me. This will be the third time at Hermit for most of us and we have sailed to most of the reasonably available destinations in the area. So I thought that a marginal change of pace might be welcomed by all, in that we could get to know another group of - possibly local - sailors and do something a bit different while still enjoying the lovely waters of Casco Bay.

I was worried what you, Dick, might think, but then realized that the split group has become a common and accepted occurrence at Rallies and Cruises (Chesapeake). This would be no different.

Best regards,

Uncle Al  (W3854)
