Hi Uncle Al,

Here is the latest information on the rally.

July 28th - Aug 3rd, 2018

I have reserved six tent only sites in Little Sand Bay Campground, for a cost of $25/night.

The campground is located inside the National Park and run by the town of Russell. We can double up if needed, or reserve newer tent sites that are closer to the water but out in the open by the NPS boat ramp.

The town has a ramp and moorings along a boardwalk, first come, first served, and they don't have an issue with tying boats off one another.   There may also be shoreline available to pull up onto.   The National Park runs a separate ramp and docking area, but suffered a lot of damage over the winter.  It may or may not be repaired, but there should be at least one ramp available to us.  I'll keep monitoring the situation as time gets closer.

The campground is 15 miles from Bayfield, the nearest big town.  For details, go to

                           http://townofrussell.org/little-sand-bay-recreation-area/

This is the only campground with reasonable rates for mooring, in fact most marinas don't even accept boats less than 20 feet in length.   The spot next to the casino campground is now an expensive mooring site and swimming area.

There are 3 islands within an easy day's sail, and a southerly trip possibility to some beautiful cliffs and caves.

Hope you've had a pleasant winter.  We're having a great winter - lots of snow, not much extreme cold, and it's still here.  Just enjoyed a beautiful nordic ski out the driveway after 6 inches fell this morning.   If you have any questions about this rally, ask away.

I'd appreciate your help in publicizing this trip.

Thank you.

Lisa

Last week we visited our Rally location, to make a final check of facilities.  The ramp is perfect for launching Wayfarers, and the dock space is conveniently located on the right side of the protected harbor.  The campground is right on the lake, and the tent sites are in a quiet location.

I have a very short list of confirmed attendees: Stephen and Susanna Wagner, and David and me.

The list of confirmed non-attendees is Margaret Mckelvey, Bill Harkness, Keith & Laurie Gunde, Tom Goldsmith, Al Fick & Elly Truran, Ian Coxhead, Phil & Cathy Leonard, Alan & Mary Asseltine, Uncle Al.

There is still time to join us.

Please let me know whether or not you are coming.

Lisa

Looking at the various Wayfarer calendars, it looks like a good date for the Apostle Islands Rally 2018 is August 4th through the 9th or 10th.

I believe we will be staying at the Little Sand Bay Campground, in Russell Wisconsin.  $20/night.  On the western edge of the  islands.  Has a very nice dock and mooring for $10/night, but also a sandy/grassy area next to the beach for mooring for free.   Very quiet tenting area.

The other option is  Buffalo Bay Campground. $25/night. Campground is next to Legendary Waters Casino and parking lot but the tenting sites are beyond a small hill and are tolerable. Problem is mooring.  There is no place to moor and slips at the casino cost $35/day.

The other different option is to rent a cottage from Lake Superior Rentals in Bayfield ( south of town). If we share the larger cottages, the price will be about $62/night/couple, and they have a lovely long sandy beach right out the door. The dates would change to Aug 5-Aug 10th.

I'd like to get a head count of people who are thinking of attending so I can get our reservations firmed up.  Can you please get this information out into the greater Wayfarer community?
