Bennetts
Capture Their First North American Title USWA Commodore, Jim Heffernan, presents the Henry Croce Trophy to Marc and Julie (180625) Marc Bennett and
wife, Julie Seraphinoff, are the 2018 North American
Wayfarer champions. In an abbreviated four-race series
sailed in light to medium airs on Chesapeake Bay off
Rock Hall, Maryland, June 16-17, Marc and Julie - of
East Lansing, MI - dominated a ten-boat fleet
that included most of our top-rated, active North
American Wayfarers. At 1-3-1-1 Team Ras Green
was comfortably ahead of Mike and Marg Duncan (2-1-2-5),
Al Schonborn with Frank Goulay (4-4-3-2), and David and
Anne Pugh (3-5-4-4) a trio of Canadian teams who placed
2-3-4 in the series. We shared the monohulls course with
similar-sized fleets of Windmills and Comets. The latter were also
sailing their class North Americans while for the
Windmills, it was their Mid-Atlantic Championships. More
soon from Marg Duncan who is reporting on the event for
the SKIMMER.
In Friday's Down-the-Chester-River Race, sailed in hot, light-to-medium, always-unpredicatble winds, the Pughs topped a gaggle of eight Wayfarers. In a very mixed fleet of 30 boats, the Pughs lost to only a pair of the high-performance A-Cats on straight time, while on corrected time, David and Anne ended up 2nd overall, behind a Sandpiper 655 that had placed 20th on straight time. More to come soon from Sarah Pedersen who crewed for Nick Seraphinoff along with daughter, Mila (15) and son, Erik (13) - see photo below. |
