the Saturday
report by Uncle Al

the Competitors' Briefing

J.P. and Scott's W10861 Piffle

The gusty winds forecast were already building as we went out to race.

Al and Mike do a final gear check as captured by Maika who was happy to
put Al's Nikon and the 18 - 300mm Tamron lens to good use from shore.

And they're off.

A classic shot: looking back at the club and its shore taken with Al's waterproof Lumix camera.
It turns out that Al's Lumix skills need work as the following on-the-water pics will attest.

In addition to Wayfarers, the regatta atracted fleets of  Windmills, A Cats and Hamptons.

Winds have already picked up.

All races were windward-leeward sausages. A-Cats have started their first race.
Windmills and Wayfarers are next.

Richard Johnson and Michelle are prepared ...

... for a breezy day.

Rock Hall's Windmill veterans, Ralph Sponar and son, Matt

Patrick and Janet of the Erie YC won four Saturday races before packing it in and losing their series by one point to Team Sponar.

Fine sailing all in all: a warm breeze kept us from overheating. A pair of Hamptons cruise along in perfect trim.

Jim and Claire Heffernan made good use of their furling gear as one of the stronger gusts blew through.

Hampton series winners, Latane Montague with crew, Conor Lothrop

???

Maika's camera skills meet Wayfarers coming ashore in continued gusty winds.

Jim Heffernan illustrates his family's invention, the nice, brisk sit.

Michelle Parish is still in concentration mode but ...

... Richard (Johnson) is making a real effort to unwind.
