Race 3: The whole fleet - about a quarter mile
into the
race - as seen from the club lawn.

the run to the finish line: Scott Town on his way to
victory ahead

After leading near the end of the first round, Al (3854)
lost big
time when he rounded the leeward mark the wrong way. By the time, he
had
"unwound the string" a couple of times, he had fallen to 7th place!
Although
crew, David was busy keeping a wary eye on his spinnaker and on Al
Nichols
(7380), he still found time to grumble at his helm's stupidity!
...
|
|
Good spinnaker work from David S. aboard 3854 enabled
Uncle Al
to sneak past George Blanchard (CAN80) and Peter Rahn (5631) to rescue
a respectable 5th in the race.

As they near the finish line...
..
|
|
... the racing remains very close.

Chris Ryan's spi has the look it gets when it's about to
be blanketed
by its own main.

Duty calls: Series leaders, Grant and Scott Town, have to
forego
the final race due to a business appointment.
Note their excellent form even when they are not racing!

Ready for a roll tack for the camera?

If Grant wasn't thinner and taller, you'd swear this was
Mike Mac
doing one of his demonstration tacks!

And off they go around the end of the dock.
Congratulations on
a fine series, guys!

Also packing it in early were Alex and Peter Rahn who
were faced
with a 400-mile trip home through the rain.

The second beat of race 4: Chased by Dwight
Aplevich (4606),
Brian Jeffs (9235), Rick Goldt (7660) and Al Schönborn (3854)
fight
over the lead. These three would meet again at the windward mark in no
uncertain terms!
