Far more all-up weight than you and I or Tony and I and certainly a far cry from the 135-lb. ideal crew we keep looking for. We got along well and did not screw much up but on Saturday, ended up placing 8-6-6 in an 11-boat fleet, miles behind all the top boats (Pugh, Pilling, Duncan, Hansman). Whatever we tried seemed to turn to shit. But we did have fun. Depression ended this morning. We again had things go wrong in the first race but them caught up big chunks of distance to place 4th not far behind any of the top three. In the finale, rain and 8-12 knots, we rounded just ahead of Pilling and Pugh onto a final run to the finish. They passed us but we finished with a boatlength of water between Sue, David P, us, Dave H. Confidence re-established for Rock Hall. See you Thursday? The competition has really gotten keen. I have had to decide that I better be there for the fun even when the wind blows. I still remember when Heffernan told me during the Mids last year that he was clinging to eighth place. Although our age is a factor. My knee went out Saturday and I can barely walk. I hope I will be ok for the River Race on Friday. |
